What’s in the box?
I spent eight hours in a wonderful coffee shop in the small Massachusetts town of West Stockbridge. Before my arrival, I had prepared the following items: dozens of wrapped boxes, each containing an appealing gift item, and dozens of crumpled sheets of paper, each containing “words of wisdom” from famous philosophers, poets, and statesmen. Patrons of the shop were invited to select either a box or a sheet of paper and to discuss the reasons for their choice with me. I was pleased that most participants took the matter at hand very seriously, explaining in detail the thought-process that led to a final decision. It was a gratifying experience for me, and hopefully, for those who chose to join me.
