True or False? Love means never having to say you’re sorry
For the sixth year in a row, I decided to present an interactive performance in honor of Valentine’s Day. This time, I decided to use the occasion to solve a mystery — what did other people think about the strange tagline for the 1970 film “Love Story?” The line in question states that “love means never having to say you’re sorry.”
I spent more than six hours in my local coffee shop, asking people to share their opinions about this statement, and about love in general. Forty-nine people thought the phrase made no sense. Four people came up with reasons to support the validity of the statement.
More importantly, more than a dozen people sat down to chat with me at length about the meaning of true love! It was a wonderful way to spend Valentine’s Day.
