Playing with Bricks, Constructing a Life
I was invited to present a performance piece in an outdoor courtyard space in lower Manhattan. My preparation included the gathering of submissions from dozens of people who had agreed to share a few of their childhood memories with me. I then shared their stories — anonymously — with the people who gathered to watch my performance. There was also an element of audience participation in the program, with volunteers working to build structures with toy brick while I was speaking.
