Marcy & The Pink Podium
Several years ago, I heard that Marina Abramovic, the godmother of performance art, did not take a work of performance art seriously unless it lasted a minimum of eight hours. I decided to challenge myself to meet this requirement. I brought a pink lectern to a local coffee shop. For eight hours, I did assorted pantomimes of people making speeches or singing or lecturing: a politician, a rock star, an art history professor, a balladeer, etc. I used a variety of props to support the illusions I aspired to create. People seemed to enjoy the performance, watching for long periods of time.
In the end, I felt a real sense of accomplishment: eight hours of performing with no breaks!
