Unable to resist an opportunity to engage with the public, I submitted a proposal to the Blue Door Gallery for an interactive performance piece to be presented at the opening reception for an exhibition called FOCUS ON FILM. The jurors liked my idea, and so, I appeared at the reception in the guise of ??? Well, I pretended to be a weird-but-wise old woman with the power to transform a gallery visitor into the movie star of his or her choice. The most interesting part of my conversation with each participant concerned his or her reasons for selecting a particular actor or actress: some people seem to believe the “Hollywood spin” about their chosen icon — ignoring the sad facts of the person’s real life story. Oh well. It’s about fantasy, eh?
